I joined DA back in 2011 after a long absence from the art world. I decided to explore the humble graphite pencil and the human portrait and figure. I gave myself 5yrs to do this and this year i come to the end of that journey. One thing i have learned so far is that 5yrs is nowhere near enough time because with every step forward i take i discover more challenges and questions that i need to understand ... i guess the learning never stops but it also does not get any easier.
Over the past 5 years i have worked hard and daily on technique and used references only with that in mind. If i need to work on some part of my technique development then i would use a carefully chosen reference to aid me. My aim is to produce drawings that are realistic in nature but highly stylised, i also very much want them to be recognised as drawings and not mistaken for photographs. I tried that photo realism path and i felt i was not growing creatively. The photo would dictate what i did when i wanted to allow myself the freedom to experiment and take risks and create my own interpretations and i personally learn more that way. I know many who travel the photorealism road and i watch with respect many and thoroughly enjoy watching their journey ... we all take our own artistic journey in the end though and each path is as valuable an experience as the next, there is no right or wrong ... just the freedom to be creative in our own way.
Thank you in advance for any faves, i do not have the time to answer each one personally but i do answer all comments and enjoy hearing from you all and visiting new watchers galleries.
I do consider commissioned work, if you are interested feel free to send me an e-mail or note me ... my e-mail address is found at the top of this page.
Have a great 2016 and thank you for visiting my page .... enjoy your art
