OK .. about me,

I joined DA back in 2011 after a long absence from the art world. I decided to explore the humble graphite pencil and the human portrait and figure. I gave myself 5yrs to do this and this year 2015 is my 5th year. The one thing i have learned so far is that 5yrs is nowhere near enough time because with every step forward i take i discover more challenges and questions that i need to understand ... i guess the learning never stops but it also does not get any easier.

I studied and worked as a illustrator back in the day and my drawings do tend to take on an illustrative style at times but I quite like that as I'm not trying to achieve photo realism and i believe in letting a style develop naturally. Most are straight forward copies because they are only drawn so i can experiment with ideas or techniques. Some will be motivated by tones alone and others by textures. I love reflected light and dramatic lighting also .. I draw on smooth Bristol paper and Bristol Velum or Fabriano with a more textured surface, i find that moving from one to the other presents different challenges which i enjoy ... i draw to learn.

I also believe in sharing and so i will add the very rare occasional walkthrough to share what i have learned. I have also added many old illustrations to my gallery for any who want to see them.

Thank you in advance for any faves, i do not have the time to answer each one personally but i do answer all comments and enjoy hearing from you all and visiting new watchers galleries.

I do consider commissioned work, if you are interested feel free to send me an e-mail or note me ... my e-mail address is found at the top of this page.

Have a great 2015 and thank you for visiting my page .... enjoy your art :D

These are gorgeous works, really inspiring. Trying to achieve that level of realism myself both with pencils and oils, but the penny hasn't dropped quite yet, stuck in a weird semi-cartoon thing! Seeing stuff like this though; keeps me wanting to achieve that reach!

All the best for the new year~

Thanks for the invite which is always appreciated. I have so many groups at the moment and i am thinking of trimming down the number as i can't give them my time as i should do so i won't be joining any new or established groups for a while as my inbox is so full and it's getting harder to keep up. I wish you all the best with your new group though.
