i can almost touch him
Oh my gosh. I can't believe this is a *drawing*! What stunning work.
Hi Mark, I really admire you r attention to fine detail. Your full light areas, reflected light, half tones, shadow edges and cast shadows are all so well done. I like the texture of the skin and am wondering if you are using the smooth shading technique (traditional side of the graphite) or the tip of your pencil or graphite powder. Its a beautiful texture. I love the emotion here too; the moment in time you have so beautifully captured. Great work Mark, I have enjoyed looking at all your work and can see your various journeys of discovery in many of your works. Sincere regards Cindy
Thank you Cindy, very much appreciated. I only use the tip but not too sharp and build up multiple soft layers blending between the layers with a variety of tools. I do remember that i used a lot of cotton wool balls and soft nylon watercolour brushes on the skin tones for softness but i needed plenty of layering. The technique constantly changes and adapts with each drawing. Yes it's been an interesting journey at times and every new piece still brings something new to the table which i enjoy and with ever fresh piece comes a fresh approach to try something new and different in some way.
Hi Mark, I must appologise because I only just found this message. Its not often that I login to Deviant art. Thank you for your interesting reply. I use the side of the pencil alot, and build up in gentle layers with blending usually on the final layer. Its great how we can use many different techniques to get the results we are after. Lately I have been exploring coloured pencil more, love that medium. You can see some of my results at cindywider.com but in general I just wanted you to know that I love your work! Have a great day and thanks again
