His face is very difficult to made: the tons of his skin is too hard to reproduce ...He is awesome Love Meow :3  and his gaze seems so real and his nose so well done  Heart and his discreet but so bright smile !
Do you think that I have to use a 7B pencil instead of a 2B  for portraits? (I use a 2B pencil but I iron it several times )

I find it hard
to darken my drawings , like in this portrait gigi28.deviantart.com/art/inte…,
because everything in the right side of the cheek is jet black in the real picture. Also, do you think I transcribed the emotion in her eyes?
I'm always afraid when the phase shading clothes began especially the effect of drapery, and texture, light ...

First may I apologise for the late reply, it does take me a while to get to reply to my messages. I read Clive's ( late starter) reply and he has given you the advice I would give. It will come but it takes practice .. Not only with the hand but also for the eye. It will take time to "see". Only those who persever will benefit from the practice but we all start from the same beginning. Softer pencils can help to achieve more warmth of tone and the more you layer up the smoother the tones will get. Never be afraid to try something that is hard because you will learn more and faster when you push hard. Best advice I got from an old art tutor was not to be afraid to take risks. Better to learn something valuable by ruining a drawing than not learning anything by playing safe... Served me well. I used 3B, 4B, 5B and 6B on this one and used the circulism method for the skin tones. Getting true emotion in the eyes takes a great deel of practice to master, I would not worry about that at your stage, concentrate on proportions and understanding the face and it's features through careful observation. For me this is what I find fascinating and it's what drives me, I hope you enjoy the journey, get as many tutorials as you can get from the web also, there are many great tutorials out there.

Something in his eyes reminds me of a very dear friend of mine - the same light expression that a single glance can make you once again believe in the world no matter what happens around you. This is just so beautiful.

Thank you for sharing that Mark, that is a really great idea ! I use a white gelpen to make white whiskers on my coloured pencil drawings, but that is sometimes quite difficult (or maybe I have a lousy gelpen). I don't know, because of the waxiness of coloured pencils, maybe it's not possible to paint over that though, I'll have to check that out.
It looks incredibly real, the sand on the skin

I have never used a gelpen so i don't know how they behave but white ink will flow over graphite quite well. It can create a blue mark instead of white if the drawing is not fixed beforehand so watch out for that and the more layers you use .. the whiter the line. It's definitely worth experimenting on some scraps to see if you like it :D

They are difficult to use sometimes because nothing comes out and then there is a slight indentation in the paper.
I'm going to try this out, thanks again

I love this! His eyes are so alive and the expression is great! The hair is just about perfect and I love the sand. The fingers, which always seen to end up being the hardest part to draw sometimes, really look good. Excellent!
